Neglect – Hebrews 2:1-3

“Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.” Hebrews 2:1-3 NKJV

Neglect – to be indifferent, not to care, to make light of, to pass over, not to give due attention

1. The Danger of Neglect: Verses 1 and 2
*Neglect by itself will lead to ruin
*One of the simplest things to do is to neglect, but the results are devastating
*Neglect will cost you more than you want to pay

2. The Cause of Neglect: Verse 1
a. Unawareness – “Give the most earnest heed”
– New believers beware here
– Bible study, quiet time, church, etc. are important
b. Arrogance – “Lest we drift away”
– We become too familiar with the Scriptures
– I do need to go to church, Bible Study, etc.

3. The Results of Neglect: Verse 2
*We shall not escape. Not escape what?
a. Developing a hard heart (wrong decisions)
“Do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of
testing in the wilderness Hebrews 3:8
“but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be
hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” Hebrews 3:13 NKJV
while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your
hearts as in the rebellion.” Hebrews 3:15 NKJV
b. An evil heart of unbelief (wrong faith)
“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in
departing from the living God” Hebrews 3:12 NKJV
c. A life away from God (ruined life)
“Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in
departing from the living God” Hebrews 3:12 NKJV

Just As I Am

Verse 1
Just as I am without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee
O Lamb of God I come I come

Verse 2
Just as I am and waiting not
To rid my soul of one dark blot
To Thee whose blood can cleanse each spot
O Lamb of God I come I come

Chorus
I come broken to be mended
I come wounded to be healed
I come desperate to be rescued
I come empty to be filled
I come guilty to be pardoned
By the blood of Christ the Lamb
And I’m welcomed with open arms
Praise God just as I am
